THE 2019 AWARD

MINNEAPOLIS, MN -- Jim Crutchfield, coach at Nova Southeastern, is the 2018-19 recipient of the Jack Bennett Award, which represents winning with integrity and is named in honor of the former head coach at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

After a long, successful tenure at West Liberty, Crutchfield took over the Nova program two years ago and started building a winning tradition. Nova was 29-4 this season won a Division II regional and advanced to the Elite 8.

In 15 seasons, Crutchfield, a two-time national coach of the year, has won 84 percent of his games as a head coach.

Bennett won five Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference titles, made five NCAA tournament appearances and won two national championships. He’s the program’s all-time winningest coach with a 200-56 record. In 34 seasons as head coach he compiled a record of 480-175.

The recipient of the 2023-24 award will be announced in April, in Phoenix, AZ site of the men's NCAA Basketball Championship.

The Jack Bennett award is presented annually to a non-division I head coach who achieves success on the basketball court, while displaying great moral integrity off of the court as well, as voted on by the awards committee.  

Coaches at the division II, division III, NAIA and JUCO ranks are eligible for the award.

The 10-member voting committee consists of current and former head coaches, as well as two senior staff members of collegeinsider.com.

The award is presented annually at the site of the men's Division I NCAA basketball championship.
